Interop survey released
The 2011 Interop cloud computing conference was recently held in Las Vegas, Nevada.
During the annual convention, Network Instruments conducted an on-site survey of cloud computing industry professionals on the current state of the virtualized platform. The survey found that the cloud is growing in popularity, with 61 percent of respondents claiming their businesses have already adopted some form of cloud services.
Additionally, with a greater number of businesses employing cloud services, cloud-enabled applications are expected to rise as well. The survey found that more of these critical business functions will migrate to the cloud, and by 2012 approximately 38 percent of all enterprise software applications will be housed in cloud space.
One of the main advantages of cloud computing - scalability - was also addressed by the survey. Respondents found that this particular aspect has improved in the last year, as more than half claimed their ability to rapidly provision more computing power grew with the platform's wider acceptance.
The federal sector, one of the cloud's biggest advocates, is also adopting the software in growing numbers. According to Government Computing News, this process is being helped along thanks to the efforts of the National Institute of Standards and Technology.
