The Army enlists the help of cloud computing

Securing up-to-date, accurate and quick information is a constant battlefield objective that many military commanders strive to achieve. According to Defense Systems magazine, the Army has recently deployed a cloud-based computing system that may aid soldiers who are involved in the Afghan conflict.

"I think this cloud capability is really significant, and I think it’s going to change the way that we do Army intelligence for the long term," Colonel Charles Wells, project manager of Distributed Common Ground Systems-Army, told the news source.

One of the key advantages to the new system is its ability to analyze key battlefield statics. As stated by the media outlet, a program that will be used to help predict improvised explosive device placement will operate through this statistical model.

The implementation of the new computing node may be the first time the cloud is being used to serve the U.S. military in combat operations. However, according to Forbes, important government and defense agencies have been supporters of cloud computing architecture recently. These institutions highlight the cloud's ability to save money and maintain a secure system.
