Hybrid clouds might be the answer companies are looking for

Companies torn between using public clouds or private clouds should consider using both, Matthew Lynley wrote for VentureBeat. According to Lynley, companies that use elements of both public cloud services and their own privately-run clouds get the best of both worlds.

Public clouds appeal to companies for their ease of use. Cloud service providers sell storage and bandwidth space, freeing companies from having to store the information themselves. However, some companies are concerned about cloud security and prefer to keep their data in-house.

Even though many cloud security concerns are overblown, companies still prefer to hold on to their information, wrote Lynley. “Most major companies will probably still always have security standards that will prevent them from moving their business into the public cloud,” he wrote.

The answer, he wrote, is for companies to utilize public cloud services whenever possible while using private clouds to store sensitive data.

Not all experts are convinced that public clouds are less safe than private clouds. Recently, one expert argued that public clouds actually face more rigorous security standards than private clouds, potentially making them safer.
