Russian investors back cloud platform
Runa Capital, a Russia-based venture capital firm, recently announced plans to invest $500,000 in a cloud-based application development platform. The platform aims to give developers of cloud apps the ability to independently create web applications for little cost while reducing marketing time.
The investment is Runa’s second since it launched in August 2010. The firm has stated that it hopes to offer $30 million to help startups in fast-growing technology sectors such as cloud computing.
"We believe the cloud is where the future of computing lies. As more services and applications move to the cloud, it makes perfect sense that development should also happen there," said Dmitry Chikhachev, managing partner of Runa Capital.
The application’s team has been working on its technology for two years. The team won the DevGeneration 2010 software developers competition and hopes their app allows developers to create their own apps without the usual limits imposed by programming languages.
Russia has been heavily involved in the development of cloud computing in Europe. One Russian medical center uses cloud computing to boost the speed at which test results can be shared and aid in decision making relating to treatment and surgery.
