Energy management to play a major part in cloud computing

Cloud services offer businesses a wide range of tools for improvement. In addition to cloud apps and data storage, businesses can now even track energy usage with cloud computing, ZDNet.com reports.

People Power, a startup company, recently launched a new cloud app called the Energy Services Platform. ESP allows users to monitor any piece of electronics equipment, including lights, printers, refrigerators and more, as long as they are attached to the Open Source IPv6 Automation Network.

To become part of OSIAN, devices must either be enabled with a People Power SuRF module or plugged into a socket with the module. Additionally, Wi-Fi devices can also communicate with the network.

According to People Power CEO Gene Wang, ESP will allow users to monitor electricity usage in real time. The network can be controlled with a web browser and through an iPhone app. Additionally, the company is working on an Android app.

Cloud computing itself can also help companies with energy management. According to a recent report, cloud computing can help large corporations cut carbon emissions by as much as 30 percent.
