Gaming companies using the cloud to target cheap gamers

The gaming industry suffers the usual technological pitfalls of innovations making old platforms obsolete, and for many video game enthusiasts this can place quite a burden on personal funds. According to Asia One, gaming companies looking to remain competitive may soon start offering their latest titles on the cloud.

The news source reports that a telecommunications company in Singapore, Singtel, recently partnered with the London-based video game design company Playcast Media to launch a cloud service called ESC.

Video games housed in the ESC cloud will feature similar graphic resolutions and sound quality that customers would expect from advanced consoles, states the media outlet. Furthermore, the service can be accessed through desktops and mobile devices that meet minimum power requirements.

However, the news source reports the biggest reason using this technology will attract more customers is because cloud-based gaming will likely be a cheaper alternative to updating gaming hardware.

As a country, Singapore may be ahead of its constituents in the adoption of cloud computing. According to ZDNet Asia, the small nation is one of the foremost leaders in the percentage of businesses to implement a hybrid cloud, beating out the United States and the UK.
