Survey: App developers working to make cloud mobile

Cloud services have already had a significant impact on the way many businesses manage their IT infrastructure. According to the results of a recent survey, even deeper changes may take place as mobile application developers work to create cloud-enabled solutions that utilize mobile devices.

The survey, conducted by research firm IDC, polled approximately 2,200 mobile application developers located all over the world. It found approximately 87 percent of developers intend to work on apps that utilize cloud services in 2011.

This represents a significant increase over the 64 percent of developers who intended to work on cloud-enabled mobile apps in 2010.

As the number of cloud services accessible from mobile devices increases, a growing number of companies may choose to incorporate tablets and smartphones into their IT infrastructure. According to IDC, the survey's results indicate businesses are accelerating efforts to build new mobile application strategies.

The growing popularity of mobile devices in the enterprise may be affecting PC sales. According to another IDC study, the PC market in the U.S experienced a decline of approximately 4.8 percent year-on-year in the final quarter of 2010.
