Report: Virtualization key to making cloud computing work

A recent report from a major technology company asserted virtualization is key to strengthening adoption rates of cloud computing among companies.

Virtualization of desktops and storage will become more important to companies as they continue to modernize and demand instant accessibility to information in the workplace.

According to David Chalmers, a chief technical officer at a major tech company, virtualization, while not a new idea, has new value within current IT infrastructure.

"Virtualization allows central IT to be more flexible to meet the demands of users, so when there is a requirement for more processing power it can be allocated as is necessary, and of course less can be allocated to the same user when it is not required," Chalmers told Techeye. "It is this intelligent allocation of capacity when required that is offered by virtualization that can give massive benefits to companies."

The CTO further believes "hybrid" will be the buzz word during 2011, whereas "cloud" ruled 2010, as more companies develop their own systems for implementing the managed IT service and maximizing its benefits.

Recent reports have estimated public cloud revenue will reach $29.5 billion by 2015.
