Survey shows growth of cloud management

Cloud computing is proving to be more than just a lot of hype. In recent survey of 434 business IT professionals in North America and Europe, 80 percent of respondents with at least 1,000 employees said they are using a cloud service. More than half reported using at least six cloud services.

According to Adam Famularo, general manager of CA Technologies’ cloud division, the survey shows that companies are seeking to expand their cloud infrastructures.

“This study confirms that large enterprises are exploring the benefits of the cloud, and are looking to expand from basic services like collaboration to more complex infrastructure and platform cloud services,” he said. “It validates a trend we predicted, that IT executives are rapidly becoming orchestrators of an IT supply chain made up of internal and external services.”

According to the survey, the desire for managed clouds is on the rise. More than one third of x86 servers are virtualized within businesses. More than half of these companies use managed clouds and virtualization.

The cloud computing marketplace is growing rapidly. It is expected to be worth $16.7 billion by 2013.
