Health records might make way into the cloud
A wide variety of data can be stored on the cloud, which has attracted both governments and businesses. Cloud computing has even taken off in the healthcare industry.
According to Computerworld, health records application vendors are increasingly turning to Software-as-a-Service to provide solutions for applications hosting.
“Application services run on remote-hosted platforms as well as on a client,” the report said. “Access to applications and clinical data is delivered through terminal services technology or virtual private networks, giving the illusion of a truly web-based application or thin client.”
Any doubts those in the healthcare industry held about cloud computing are being eased as it becomes more commonplace. “Today, as cloud computing becomes a more mainstream technology, physician practices and healthcare organizations are evaluating whether this platform holds the answer for a less expensive, more secure alternative to traditional computing networks,” Computerworld said.
Cloud computing’s increased presence in the healthcare industry has been spurred by cloud providers. One computer company recently acquired a cloud-based medical archiving company, with the aim of improving its status in the healthcare market.
