Telegraph: Cloud services help cut enterprise costs

Cloud services can help large companies considerably cut IT expenses, according to a recent Telegraph report.

Services company Fujitsu recently shifted its data and applications to the cloud in an attempt to reduce costs, the report said. The company was able to increase both productivity and cost-effectiveness by replacing a legacy IT infrastructure that utilized a variety of separate virtual server environments, according to the Telegraph.

Fujitsu chief information officer David Smith told the Telegraph the company invested in cloud services with the intention of maximizing returns and increasing IT agility. According to Smith, cloud services offer the company a solution that is "flexible" and will meet the company's needs "today and for years to come."

Steve Ranaghan, systems strategy manager at Fujitsu, said cloud services are "scalable, robust and offer consistent performance." Financially, they offer the benefit of a pricing model that is "aligned with business use," he added.

Many IT professionals are drawn to cloud services because of their financial benefits and scalability. A recent poll found approximately 49 percent of IT professionals view dynamic growth as the cloud's key benefit, while the same proportion see low costs as its central advantage.
