Cloud computing a necessity for reduced IT spending

An IT expert recently expressed high praise for cloud computing, calling it a "necessity" for companies looking to reduce their IT spending.

In an interview with the Jordan Times, Nabeel Fayoumi, general manager of Jordan's National Information Technology Center, told the publication investing in remote servers or managed IT services can drastically cut costs. A fellow expert, Abu Sharar, confirmed this sentiment and told the paper that the public sector has the greatest potential for savings with cloud computing.

Fayoumi believes businesses now, more than ever, can receive return on investment from technology.

"Although the spending on technology was immense, we have not witnessed a tangible positive impact over the past years," Fayoumi said. "The whole world is resorting to cloud computing, with many countries across the world starting to create major data centers to serve their organizations."

A recent report from IDC estimated the cloud computing management software market could be worth more than $2.4 billion by 2015. Furthermore, global IT spending is expected to increase by 3.7 percent during 2011, according to a recent Celent report.
