New study shows increased cloud uptake
According to Advanced Micro Devices, worldwide cloud adoption has increased from 2010. Now, 70 percent of businesses have either implemented the platform or plan to do so in the near future.
The benefits commonly cited by companies as a reason to make the virtual switch include cost reduction and greater IT capabilities. However, according to the survey, there are additional considerations as CIOs transport valuable enterprise data to the virtual realm.
“The findings point to the fact that, while the era of cloud computing has arrived, there are radically different attitudes, approaches, concerns and levels of maturity depending on business environment,” said Patrick Patla, AMD general manager, server and embedded division.
The report found businesses look to use virtual storage to increase enterprise data capacity. Furthermore, the information held in the cloud will represent a significant chunk of a company’s net assets, as 62 percent of respondents announced plans to store up to $250,000 worth of data using the platform. Based on this reporting, AMD further predicts that billions of business-critical materials are currently stored in the cloud.
According to InformationWeek, CIOs concerned about cloud capability with legacy infrastructures may opt for open source programs, as the flexible software can incorporate a greater variety of systems into its stack.
