The ability to store information virtually in the cloud may also have the added effect of speeding up file transfers. One of the sectors turning to the cloud to achieve this desired result is the medical field, which is currently revising healthcare policies and switching over to electronic records.
According to the University of California, San Diego, its medical schools and in-patient care facilities have begun to adopt the cloud. The results thus far have been positive, and physicians say that the platform has enabled them to make accurate diagnoses quicker.
"It is an advance in the way we exchange medical information between health care facilities. This benefits our trauma patients for diagnoses and treatment and cuts down on redundant imaging” Jeanne Lee, MD, UC, San Diego Health System, said.
The new cloud-based system allows for patient files to be transferred over the Internet. Experts say electronic health records are valuable to the medical community because faster exchanges could lead to better quality care for incoming patients.
The cloud is becoming a popular alternative in the healthcare. The Health News Digest reports that one third of the medical filed has already included cloud computing in its operations.
