AT&T acquisiton of T-Mobile to boost telecom's cloud computing services?
AT&T's proposed acquisition of T-Mobile might have deeper meaning than becoming a major wireless force in the U.S. A recent Examiner report stated that while Deustche Telekom has agreed to sell its U.S. consumer side in T-Mobile, it can now focus on expanding its ICT services for its business half, T-Systems.
With the sale, DT can now focus its efforts on pursuing other profitable business avenues with T-Systems, as the the article states. According to DT's press release regarding the merger, the company is looking to quadruple its cloud computing business revenue in Europe, and it will also begin targeting the U.S. as well.
The article also points out that DT is well aware of President Obama's Wireless Innovation and Infrastructure Initiative, and the new merger is a "win-win" for this strategy, bringing further network accessibility to the country. However, with increased cloud solutions possibly on the way, the company could become a major player for government adoption of the managed IT service.
A recent technology outline Obama provided in the 2012 federal budget calls for less in-house data center usage and more cloud computing utilization.
