App performance, lower costs prompt movement to cloud, survey says
According to a recent survey, corporate IT decision makers place a heavy priority on application performance when moving apps to the cloud. The survey assessed application performance management in 500 multinational corporations in 12 European countries.
The vast majority of respondents indicated that web conferenceing, video conferencing and Microsoft applications are the most likely apps to be moved to the cloud. Less than 20 percent of respondents plan to move call center apps to the cloud and fewer plan to virtualize their call center apps, the survey said.
Data and server costs continue to be the most significant reason for moving the cloud. More than 67 percent of respondents said they plan to consolidate data centers and servers within two years.
App performance management was also important to MNCs, with 54.4 percent of respondents saying they have an app delivery performance solution in place.
“As this study shows, WAN optimization and APM continue to be important to MNCs and most especially when they are moving to the cloud,” said Jean Critcher, solution director at the firm that conducted the study.
Increasing numbers of corporations are joining the cloud, attracted by its cost savings on server space. Additionally, a recent study showed that cloud services could have a significant impact on reducing carbon emissions.
