The cloud emboldens security regulations
Chief information officers implementing the cloud have reported an expansion in their typical job duties. According to ComputerWorld, the concerns over cloud security have led to an increased number of reports by information technology professionals on the integrity of business security measures.
The news organization reports that the cloud further encourages CIOs to focus more on data encryption, rather than beef up the safety perimeters of enterprise technology.
"You can't protect the perimeter. When it [the data] is created, at rest, in transit, the data has to be protected. The cloud merely explodes the perimeter beyond your own data center," said Rob Elliss, regional VP of sales for SafeNet, told the media outlet.
Instead, CIOs will be able to concentrate on information integrity and internetwork operations, leaving firewall concerns to a third-party.
The movement to enhanced security may be a result of an expected rise in cyber attacks for 2011, according to ZDNet Asia.
"I think we're going to see incidents that are significant, but it's also going to become more interesting as the incidents may kick start debates on who's going to be responsible for the breach," said Jim Reavis, executive director of the Cloud Security Alliance.
