Don’t wait too long for cloud standards, CEO says
While cloud computing is growing increasingly popular among businesses, some are waiting for more cloud standards to emerge before entering the fray.
However, Bernard Golden, CEO of consulting firm HyperStratus, says waiting too long for standardization will do companies more harm than good. Golden says those holding off from cloud computing are costing themselves valuable time.
“It's understandable that he would react in this fashion,” wrote Golden for CIO.com. “Given the high profile of this type of reaction, it would be easy to conclude that user organizations are waiting for the dust to settle among cloud providers.”
However, according to Golden, waiting for standards to emerge will backfire on companies. “Cloud computing offers real financial benefits - and it's not just for transient use cases, either,” he wrote. Golden says the benefits of waiting for cloud standards to emerge are offset by the costs of lost opportunities. “There's a real consequence to not doing something,” he wrote.
Golden encourages companies to move into the cloud and decide how they plan to do so quickly.
Many companies are apprehensive about embracing cloud computing. According to a recent survey, 28 percent of respondents are “aggressively” pursuing cloud computing.
