Virgin anticipates cloud growth in UK during next several years
Virgin Media Business believes cloud computing adoption on hosted systems will increase significantly in the UK soon. In fact, Virgin's business product manager, David Green, estimates the use of cloud computing will drive the datacenter market during the next several years, and possibly even further in the future.
"Hosting is growing and we see it as the next step for businesses as they reduce the amount of equipment they buy and only want to pay for the services they use," Green said.
Virgin recently announced its plan to offer carrier-grade connectivity through its fiber network throughout Britain to help deal with the anticipated increase in demand.
Research firm IDC released a recent report that reiterates Virgin's beliefs. IDC's analysis found managed IT services - cloud computing in particular - are set to become major players in the technology world during the next several years. In fact, IDC believes the cloud computing marketing will experience a 45.5 percent compound annual growth from now until 2015.
