Study: Cloud adoption considerations double in 2011

In 2009, a small number of businesses worldwide viewed the cloud as a viable IT solution. However, a new study conducted by IBM for 2011 shows that these attitudes are now undergoing serious revision.

The study found cloud adoption by the business sector was up in every major technology country. Additionally, according to the study's findings seven out of 10 CIOs in the United States, Korea and Japan consider the cloud a "top priority." Furthermore, the cloud made substantial gains in the entertainment, telecommunications and automotive industries.

IBM researchers claim that the findings are representative of a new emphasis placed on the cloud by computer industry professionals who may see the virtual platform as a means of attaining a competitive advantage in the cut-throat field.

"This study provides key evidence of how the capabilities of IT are aligning perfectly with the aspirations of business leaders." said Jeanette Horan, vice president and CIO of IBM. "The winners will be those companies that understand the power of technologies like cloud, analytics and mobility and can harness that power to transform their businesses."

The study claims that the automotive industry is using the cloud in increased numbers. According to Bloomberg, this has prompted automakers to revamp hiring efforts for their IT divisions.
