Report: Cloud may leave PC in its dust
Most users of cloud services currently access the cloud on their trusty PCs. According to a recent Datamation report, however, this may be set to change, as the combination of cloud computing technology and new mobile devices dramatically change the way IT operates.
According to the news provider, mobile internet traffic is set to overtake fixed internet traffic in the coming years. An increasing proportion of this traffic will come through single-purpose applications - popular on mobile devices and tablets - rather than web browsers.
“Today, 90 percent of individuals are accessing their computing infrastructure via PCs and 10 percent are accessing via a widely dispersed combination of virtual desktops {remove link here before posting}, cloud PCs, zero clients and more," said Jeff McNaught, chief marketing and strategy officer for a cloud computing provide[r]. "In less than 10 years, I expect that ratio to be reversed,” he added.
Cloud services continue to grow rapidly in popularity. According to a recent Management Insight study, more than 8- percent of large companies have adopted cloud services.
