Google launches Chromebooks

The latest notebook computer announcement by Google is bound to turn some heads in the general public and cloud computing industry.

Recently, Google announced its latest offering, a personal computer dubbed the Chromebook. According to the company's website, the devices will store all of a user's apps, documents and settings in the cloud, and will feature a large number of web-based programs compatible with virtualized platforms.

One of the problems with cloud computing is trying to maintain a continuous stream of internet uptime. Accordingly, when internet connections are momentarily lost or refreshed, any unsaved modifications to data may be lost. Google aims to solve this problem by leveraging the advanced technology of HTML5 for Chromebooks, which will allow applications to keep running even during rare system stoppages.

Additionally, the personal computers, which run on the Chrome operating system, can access Wi-Fi and 3G internet, therefore extending the reach of cloud computing to new areas.

In an effort to help people of all economic backgrounds utilize cloud services, the company may donate additional resources to college students. According to Liliputing, Google may rent Chromebook laptops to university students for a prices as low as $20 a month.
