Cloud computing not that complicated
Cloud computing gets a lot of attention from large businesses. However, some business owners might not know even basic cloud computing facts, let alone how to build cloud architecture for their company.
However, Keir Thomas of ComputerWorld says cloud computing is not all that complicated. “Cloud computing is simply this: the same stuff you do with your computer, such as office tasks or storing files, except done online,” he wrote.
Thomas notes that cloud services are frequently no different than applications users might find on their PCs, with one key difference. “You don't have to save files to your hard disk - all data is saved automatically in [the] cloud,” wrote Thomas.
Thomas also said adopting cloud computing was a necessary step for companies looking to the future. Cloud computing, he said, allowed for easier access of data at a reduced cost for businesses. “If an online storage service is used, there's no need to buy server hardware, for example, or to pay for staff to maintain hardware,” he wrote.
Cloud computing is surging in popularity among businesses. The cloud computing marketplace is expected to reach $16.7 billion in value by 2013.
