Report: Cloud computing, managed hosting spending to surpass $13 billion by 2014
According to a recent report from In-Stat, U.S. enterprise spending on cloud computing and managed hosting will surpass $13 billion by 2014, up from less than $3 billion in 2010.
“The professional services and healthcare verticals will see the largest growth in spending on cloud computing services, growing over 124 percent between 2010 and 2014,” said Greg Potter, an analyst at In-Stat.
Spending on Software-as-a-Service will also increase, according to the research company, jumping 112 percent between 2010 and 2014. In addition, infrastructure-as-a-Service will grow to $4 billion in 2014 and Platform-as-a-Service will increase by 113 percent and reach $460 million during the same year.
A recent TMC Net article believes the power of cloud computing, as well as its popularity in the business world, will fuel the next round of applications available to smartphone users on the new 4G network. With more businesses using the managed IT service, and also using smartphones in the workplace, having cloud-based applications on their mobile devices seems like the next logical step.
