Survey says users gain understanding of cloud

According to a recent survey, organizations have a better understanding of cloud computing than they did a year ago. However, some respondents also do not yet trust the cloud to those external apps due to security concerns.

Last year, only 15 percent of respondents to CMB’s survey said they had plans to “aggressively” migrate toward cloud computing. The most recent survey found that figure has almost double, to 28 percent. Most of the 247 IT professionals it surveyed for the study said they plan to run clouds for internal purposes, not external.

According to the survey, the biggest cause of concern with external cloud services is security. Other reasons included a desire for simplified pricing models and greater reliability assurances. Additionally, 54 percent of respondents said they believed their current channel partners need more training to support the transition to the cloud.

Cloud security has become a significant issue, one that cloud proponents have not ignored. Recently, the Cloud Security Alliance released several recommendations for companies looking to transition into the cloud. The alliance said it hopes the new standard will ensure peace of mind for corporate cloud users concerned about cloud security.
