Report: Cloud 'interoperability' to reach maturity by 2015

Cloud services have already moved from hype to widespread adoption, but there are a number of key areas that are expected to continue maturing in the coming years, according to a recent CIO Insight report.

Several IT leaders from Gartner and other organizations were interviewed for the report, which presents expectations for the future evolution of cloud computing.

According to the report, interoperability between cloud services is a key area in which many IT experts are hoping for new developments in the coming years. Many organizations utilize multiple managed cloud services, forcing employees to manage a large number of usernames and passwords.

Douglas Menefee, CIO for the Schumacher Group, told CIO Insight he would like to see cloud services incorporate a collective identity verification process similar to those used by websites such as Facebook. "They need those pre-built connectors," Menefee said. "If we could just transfer the consumer web into business, we'd be in great shape," he added.

According to a recent InformationWeek report, managed cloud services may be deployed by as many as 77 percent of enterprises by the end of 2012.
