Government official offers different view of the cloud
There has been much talk in the media about the cloud and its ability to reduce costs, though one Department of Defence official claims that this should not be the only concern of agencies migrating to the cloud.
"If we're doing cloud purely to save money, we're going to fail," said Air Force brigadier general Steven Spano.
However, the general claims that his statement is not an indictment on cloud computing as a whole, according to Fierce Government IT. There is still the possibility of agencies being able to save through the new platform, though those who make the switch solely to reduce costs may be faced with underwhelming results.
Instead, Spano claims that cloud migration may become a new mode in which federal information is analyzed and the news source claimed it may be too early in the platform's evolution to truly understand what this entails.
Another way the cloud may benefit the federal government besides cost-saving is institutional responsiveness to its citizenry. According to the National Journal, the American public expects technology will increase its interaction with federal agencies, therefore making these public companies more accountable to the masses.
