Enterprises jumping on board with the cloud
Enterprises are joining the cloud and, according to a recent report, more work than ever will soon be run on clouds. According to the survey, which was run by Cisco’s Internet Business Solutions Group, 12 percent of enterprise workloads will be run on public clouds by the end of 2013.
The study also showed which applications enterprises are shifting to the cloud. Companies plan on moving desktop applications, email, collaboration and enterprise resources to cloud computing resources. The moves are expected to turn a $44 billion profit for public cloud computing services.
For the survey, the company interviewed more than 80 IT decision makers working for 43 enterprises and organizations from the U.S., European Union and India. Additionally, 20 subject matter experts were interviewed.
“Enterprises are making decisions about cloud migration on an application basis,” said Cisco IBSG vice president Scott Puopolo. “This means that service providers should develop and market cloud propositions relevant for specific applications.”
Public cloud services are helping drive cloud computing value upward. According to one recent report, SaaS will push the cloud market’s value to $25 billion by 2013.
