Critical cloud security measures explained

Businesses migrating enterprise data to the cloud have a lot of things to consider, including information security. In a recent article for SYS-CON, the CEO of Cloud Lock, Gil Zimmerman, highlighted some steps businesses can take to ensure that their integration process does not result in data loss or breaches.

According to Zimmerman, many CIOs who worry about making the virtual switch fear that, in doing so, they will lose control over their information. However, businesses that set up clearly-defined access parameters or deploy a cloud access application will be able to migrate their data without sacrificing control.

Furthermore, companies may consider setting up audit counseling to make sure that their information stored in the cloud meets any regulations that may be placed on it. Zimmerman writes that this may make clear the amount of security a business needs for its virtualized data.

Also, the subjects of who controls, owns and is in charge of security all need to be addressed, according to the article.

According to the Ponemon Institute, information governance is still debated among cloud providers and their clients. However, as more companies move forward with virtualization, these issues may soon be resolved.
