Gartner CIO Agenda: Cloud computing tops

A recent report from Gartner regarding the agendas of business chief information officers found implementation of cloud computing at No.1.

Gartner's report, titled Reimagining IT: The 2011 CIO Agenda, surveyed more than 2,000 CIOs across 50 countries and also included interviews with other leading CIOs, conducted by Gartner analysts.

More than the cloud simply being the main target of most CIOs, Gartner actually believes the managed IT service will see expansive enterprise adoption soon. Recent IDC reports support Gartner's claim, as the global intelligence marketing firm predicted public cloud revenue to reach nearly $30 billion this year and that the cloud market will be worth $2.4 billion by 2015.

In addition to the cloud, CIOs also recognized mobile technologies and virtualization as top priorities for their companies. Along with cloud computing, these three technologies help businesses with three normal desires - increasing enterprise growth, attracting and retaining new customers and reducing enterprise costs.

With cloud computing becoming more popular each day, Osterman Research reported that investment in the technology is expected to increase by 10 percent in 2011.
