Enterprise Managed Cloud Computing Architecture: Production-Ready, Reliable, and Scalable

The NaviCloud Platform sets the standard for enterprise-class infrastructure and application performance. A robust, virtualized infrastructure deployed as multiple, secure infrastructure clouds in NaviSite's data centers, the NaviCloud Platform serves as the underlying technology for all of NaviSite's infrastructure, hardware, and application service offerings. The Platform includes the building blocks of a system infrastructure service, including:

  • Virtualized servers
  • Windows and Linux operating systems (licenses at no additional cost)
  • Storage
  • Networking
  • Firewalls
  • Load balancers

Enterprise-Class Infrastructure

The NaviCloud Platform is built on a state-of-the-art infrastructure:

  • VMware's vSphere virtualization platform
  • Compute platforms from tier 1 providers (Cisco and HP)
  • High performance SAN storage
  • Virtualized or physical network components depending on requirements
  • Memory configurations specifically optimized for virtualization
  • Strong segregation between customer environments

High-Speed, Scalable Cloud Architecture

NaviSite's cloud-enabled data centers are interconnected by dedicated 1 Gbps Ethernet links, minimizing network-oriented bottlenecks. Redundant high-speed connections to physical servers hosted in data centers ensure that complex applications scale to meet business demands. Load balancing options include low-cost solutions to support smaller environments, and multiple virtual load balancers – deployed and managed from within the cloud portal – to support more complex environments.

Highly Secure Cloud Computing Environment

The NaviCloud Platform employs a multi-prong approach to ensuring and enforcing the security, privacy, and integrity of enterprise applications and data. All cloud-enabled data centers are compliant with SSAE-16 requirements for physical and logical security. In addition, the NaviCloud Platform provides all of the security measures associated with traditional hosting environments, including:

  • Two-factor authentication
  • File integrity services
  • Network intrusion detection and prevention
  • Log aggregation and correlation
  • Automated vulnerability scans
  • Third-party penetration testing

Fully Integrated Business Continuity

Designed specifically to meet enterprise IT demands, the NaviCloud Platform delivers services on best-of-breed technology infrastructure from leading vendors including Cisco Systems™ and VMware™ - all provided under one of the industry's strongest SLAs.

All compute nodes are configured for high availability – multiple network connections and redundant power are in place at every layer of the infrastructure to ensure that no single physical failure will disrupt services. Compute environments have additionally been compartmentalized to ensure that a rare set of cascading failures would only impact a small number of customers, not a whole data center.

The Cisco Unified Computing System (UCS) is configured for high availability – two fabric interconnects are connected as cluster peers, allowing both an active and standby instance of the UCS manager to run on the fabric interconnects. If the primary instance fails, the standby instance assumes the role of primary instance.

Two-Tiered Cloud Computing Storage

The NaviCloud Platform employs a two-tiered approach to storage. Primary storage is handled by high-performance storage area networks (SANs) that combines high I/O rates with redundant Fibrechannel links to the disk arrays. A flexible, elastic, cloud storage capability handles enterprise requirements for secure supplementary file storage, advanced file sharing, and collaboration.

Enabling the Transactional Cloud for e-Commerce

Transaction-based applications require a cloud infrastructure that ensures security, dependability, and the ability to handle large volumes. In addition, e-commerce applications require proven credit card processing capabilities. The NaviCloud Platform can enable an environment that adheres to Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) objectives.
