Weekly Cloud Provider News – Amazon SQL SSRS, Azure Lighthouse, Azure NetApp Files, Google Cloud Logging, Oracle Upgrade Analyzer, and VMware vSphere
Each week, we highlight the latest cloud provider news from the industry’s top providers. This week, Amazon RDS adds support for SQL Server Reporting Services, the Azure Lighthouse blog series launches, Azure NetApp Files adds cross-region replication, Google adds cloud logging, Oracle unveils EBS Database upgrade analyzers, and VMware updates vSphere 7.
- Amazon RDS for SQL Server now supports SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) on SQL Server 2016 (13.0058220.21.v1 and above). This gives customers the ability to host report server web portals on the same Amazon RDS DB instance as an SQL Server database. And, this feature removes the need to run a separate EC2 server to host SSRS, which will simplify architectures and save customers money. Read more here.
- The Microsoft Azure Lighthouse product group is launching a blog series on Azure Sentinel and Azure Lighthouse. The goal of the blog is to show how Microsoft is making service provider and enterprise customers successful with Azure. Azure Sentinel is a security platform that allows organizations to manage and identify risks and ensure security response. Azure Lighthouse enables customers to manage Azure across different tenants without directly applying permissions or tools. Learn more here.
- Azure NetApp Files have added cross-region replication in preview. Azure NetApp provides the high-speed storage solution that is needed for teams running video editing, graphic design, high-speed databases and other IO-intensive workloads. Adding cross-region replication helps ensure that the service will be redundant without requiring excessive expenditure on alternative replication strategies. Get more details here.
- Google has added Cloud Logging in beta, which allows customers to quickly analyze logs with suggested queries. One of the important tasks within managing a cloud environment is logging and troubleshooting to identify the root cause of infrastructure issues. Google Cloud suggested queries will recommend logs that provide context on recent error reporting groups and other logging data, making it easier to focus on and remediate errors. Learn more here.
- Oracle has added free diagnostic tools, called analyzers, for the Oracle E-Business Suite, including the updated EBS Database 19c Upgrade Analyzer. The company updated its database analyzer scripts to provide analysis of an e-Business Suite database to determine its suitability for Oracle RDBMS 19c. The analyzers provide HTML-based reports, showing details on OS requirements, system configuration, critical and required application and patch levels, missed steps from previous upgrades and recommended actions to overcome issues. - VMware announced vSphere 7 Update 1 to introduce vSphere with VMware Tanzu, which is the fastest way to get started with Kubernetes workloads on a developer-ready infrastructure. vSphere 7 expanded host limits to allow up to 768 CPUs and support 24TB of RAM. These new host limits deliver significant scale for VMs, supporting up to 96 hosts. Get more details here.
