Weekly Cloud Provider News – AWS Budget Actions, Azure Government Cloud, Azure Blob Storage
Each week, we highlight the latest cloud provider news from the industry’s top providers. This week, AWS gets budgets under control, Azure Government Cloud adds Windows Virtual Desktops, and Azure Blob Storage unveils point-in-time restore.
- AWS introduced new budget actions that allow customers to define the action they want to take in their account when a budget exceeds its threshold. This higher level of control reduces unintentional overspending and is offered in three types: Identity and Access Management (IAM) policy, Service Control policy (SCPs), or target running instances (EC2 or RDS). Implementing cloud control best practices is a key part of successful cloud adoption. Learn more here.
- Windows Virtual Desktop is now generally available in Azure Government Cloud. Customers can simplify and secure their virtualization infrastructures in the cloud, which allows organizations with government compliance requirements to leverage virtual desktop technology in a reliable manner. This is important because until now organizations with government compliance requirements were not eligible to utilize Windows Virtual Desktop. It also helps enterprises meet the challenge of providing remote employees with secure access to business systems. Read more here.
- Azure Blob Storage has added point-in-time restore, providing continuous data protection and restoration capabilities for block blob data. This feature fills a gap in previous storage solutions on the Azure platform that historically were filled with services like shadow copy. Point-in-time restore saves users from needing to create a range of snapshots of disks in order to allow them to fail back to a point in time. Get more details here.
