Weekly Cloud Provider News – AWS DataSync, Azure SQL Server, Oracle Cloud and VMware HCX
Each week, we highlight the latest cloud provider news from the industry’s top providers. This week, AWS DataSync automates transfers, Microsoft adds SQL Server reporting to Azure, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure adds consolidated billing and VMware Cloud enhances HCX capabilities.
- AWS DataSync now offers fully automated transfers between AWS storage devices. It can transfer billions of files or objects between Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3), Amazon Elastic File System (EFS), or Amazon FSX for Windows File Server. An automated transfer service is very powerful and has many uses, including replicating data, providing redundancy or being part of a data lifecycle policy. AWS DataSync can help reduce customer costs, improve scalability and protect data. Read more here.
- Microsoft has added the ability to migrate SQL Server Reporting Services workloads into Azure, using pre-configured VM images that enable easier workload management and more efficient onboarding to the cloud. IT organizations can quickly deploy SSRS solutions that can be integrated into existing SSRS infrastructure and migrate from existing, older solutions to the latest enterprise reporting suite for Microsoft SQL Server. This is an important feature for organizations looking to upgrade SQL Server Reporting Services. Learn more here.
- Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) has added consolidated billing, which allows customers to pay for all their OCI resources from a single account with a single bill. And having a “single pane of glass” for billing enables customers to monitor and control their cloud spend more effectively. And organizations can reduce the risk of wasting committed spending by sharing a single subscription with other linked tenancies. Consolidated billing is the first feature in a series of enhancements planned in the coming year. Get more details here.
- VMware has enhanced its HCX capabilities in VMware Cloud on AWS. With HCX, customers can perform large-scale, live migrations into the cloud, plan and schedule migration waves, and easily fine-tune mobility traffic. Up to now, customers have used HCX to migrate workloads and rebalance them between on-premises data centers and the cloud. The enhancements are great news for any organization that needs to rapidly migrate workloads to the cloud. Read more here.
