Weekly Cloud Provider News – AWS Provisioned IOPS, AWS Cost and Usage Reports, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Migrate and Google Cloud API Gateway
Each week, we highlight the latest cloud provider news from the industry’s top providers. This week, AWS announces new Provisioned IOPS Volume, AWS gets more granular with its cost and usage reports, Microsoft unveils Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Migrate Server Migrations adds new options, and Google Cloud API Gateway goes to public beta.
- AWS announced general availability of its new Provisioned IOPS Volume (iO2) for Amazon EBS, which features higher durability – 99.999% – and supports provisioning of 500 IOPS for every provisioned GB. As a result, customers will get 100x better volume durability and 10x higher IOPS to storage ratio. This feature is ideal for performance-intensive, business-critical applications that will benefit from higher uptime. Read more here.
- AWS Cost and Usage Reports now offer monthly granularity. Cost control and modeling is becoming more important to enterprises as they continue to embrace the cloud, and more detailed reports and data allow organizations to track spending better and more easily. The reports display data at day-by-day intervals with the ability to roll up into a monthly total, making the data easier to digest at a high-level and review at a more detailed level. - Microsoft unveiled Azure Synapse Analytics, a new type of analytics platform that allows customers to accelerate time-to-insight with a unified experience, while also reducing costs. It is an alternative to Amazon Redshift, with a lower operating cost (per byte) than Redshift or Google BigQuery. In fact, or a per-byte basis, Azure Synapse Analytics is 94% cheaper that Google BigQuery. Learn more here.
- Azure Migrate Server Migration now offers more options to help customers meet the resiliency requirements of business-critical workloads. Azure Migrate can configure Azure Availability Zones when configuring a project during both the assessment and replication phases. This allows organizations to migrate workloads directly into high-availability instances in Azure. IT teams managing cloud migrations will save time and improve uptime metrics using this feature. - Google announced the public beta of Google Cloud API Gateway, a fully-managed offering that allows customers to create, secure and monitor APIs for serverless workloads. It packages multiple services into easy-to-use APIs and simplifies access without sacrificing security. API Gateway provides high performance and scalability with both consumption-based and tiered pricing options to help manage costs. Get more details here.
