Brewer Science
Who is Brewer Science?
Thanks to Navisite’s managed cloud services on AWS, Brewer Science was able to introduce scalability and stay within budget—all while benefiting from the rich features, service and functionality of the cloud.
The Challenge
Brewer Science was running its Oracle E-Business Suite (EBS) application in a data center until it realized a need to partner with a managed services provider to host and manage mission-critical applications. Navisite was introduced as the managed services provider of choice in 2017. Since then, Navisite has successfully supported Brewer Science’s EBS environment. As Brewer Science’s managed services provider, Navisite proactively identified new opportunities to optimize its IT landscape and get more out of its EBS investment. This included introducing a more flexible way to scale storage for Brewer Science’s operations. Because Brewer Science had limited visibility into its application performance, Navisite also recognized a need for deeper insights into its EBS environment.
The Solution
Knowing that Brewer Science could benefit from scalable storage and actionable insights into its EBS application performance, Navisite proposed a new solution to help them get there: a migration to Amazon Web Services (AWS) public cloud. This would enable Brewer Science to have enhanced visibility into its EBS application and get an in-depth view of application performance, configuration and resource usage. This would also help Brewer Science scale its operations—all while taking advantage of a flexible and cost-efficient cloud-based environment.
To help Brewer Science tap into a more flexible and scalable solution, Navisite executed a “lift-and-shift” migration of Brewer Science’s EBS application server and underlying database to the AWS public cloud.
Additionally, Navisite conducted an OS upgrade from Linux OEL5 to OEL7. Once the migration was completed, Navisite also provided day-to-day support and weekly meetings with Brewer Science, ensuring its operations were running without issues and downtime.
The entire project took place in early February 2020 through late June 2020—a time when many companies were dealing with heightened pressure, remote work environments and resource constraints due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite these unprecedented challenges, Navisite worked alongside Brewer Science to complete the project in four-and-a-half months. Thanks to Navisite’s managed cloud services on AWS, Brewer Science was able to introduce scalability and stay within budget—all while benefiting from the rich features, service and functionality of the public cloud.
