Every week we highlight cloud computing and technology news of interest. This week we’re covering a conversation with Navisite’s President and COO, Microsoft’s partner priorities for 2021, a breakdown of tech spending, VMware’s new Tanzu offering and tech hiring ends trends.

Let’s get started…

When it comes to executing successful mergers and acquisitions, Navisite President and COO Gina Murphy says “any lesson learned I can give you is just to be transparent.” Murphy spoke with Light Reading for an interview touching on topics ranging from M&A to her career path and who she views as a personal mentor. Microsoft has kicked off the new year by detailing its partner priorities for 2021. Microsoft’s Channel Chief Gavriella Schuster says that remote work remains the top priority she hopes partners will focus on this year, followed by business continuity and an emphasis on cloud migrations. A new report is shedding light on accelerated tech spending as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, including on cloud solutions. In fact, the research shows cloud spending made up 30% of total IT budgets, up from 25% last year, with a majority of respondents planning to increase spending on Microsoft Azure and AWS. Dive into the findings in ZDNet here.

This week, VMware introduced Tanzu Advanced which is designed to put “the developer experience front and centre.” The service, which builds off of VMware Tanzu Standard, also aims to integrate security into the container lifecycle. Find out more about the announcement in ZDNet here.

Despite a U.S. economy that remains in recovery, tech hiring continues to show signs of promise. According to one report, IT hiring across all sectors added 391,000 positions in December to close out the year on a high note. And one expert believes the trend will continue.
