Plano, Texas \u2013 April 16, 2014 \u2013<\/strong> ClearDB<\/a>, an innovative database-as-a-service (DBaaS) for MySQL-powered applications, today announced that the company\u2019s founder and CEO, Cashton Coleman, will speak at the first SNIA Data Storage Innovation (DSI) conference, in Santa Clara, California, April 22-24, 2014.  Coleman\u2019s session titled \u201cDatabase-as-a-Service vs. Do-It-Yourself MySQL in the Cloud<\/a>\u201d will take place on Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at 4:50 p.m. local time.
\nWhen companies are looking to move a website, app, or their whole business from a traditional hosting provider, one of the first challenges is whether or not to run their own MySQL database and MySQL-powered infrastructure (the DYI approach) versus a cloud database service to run it for them. The ability to run 80-100 percent of an app using readily available services to reduce time, resources and cost versus rolling their own components, including their database, is certainly very appealing. This session will look at the pros and cons of working with a cloud database-as-a-service.
\nCashton Coleman is the founder and CEO of ClearDB. He has been building highly available systems and services for more than 15 years, and designed and implemented the core technology behind ClearDB. Before ClearDB, he was the chief architect for Salon.com.
