Microsoft Selects ClearDB as Database-as-a-Service Provider for Office 365 Blog
Plano, Texas – April 8, 2014 – ClearDB, an innovative database-as-a-service (DBaaS) for MySQL-powered applications, has been selected by Microsoft as a database-as-a-service (DBaaS) solution for its Office 365 blog. The use of the ClearDB DBaaS resulted in a 600-percent performance increase for the high-traffic blog coupled with significant cost savings.
With WordPress as the blogging platform/CMS (Content Management System) and Microsoft Azure as the cloud host, the Microsoft team looked for a highly scalable, secure and reliable database solution to host its Office blog, which was previously hosted by an external vendor who was not only expensive, but did not keep the infrastructure up to date and charged for upgrades.
“Managing the infrastructure for databases is a huge pain,” said Mark Brown, Senior Product Marketing Manager, Azure. “These days, to be competitive, you have to spend your time on what you are good at, and unless you are a MySQL expert, you won’t be that good at managing it.”
While looking for DBaaS providers, they knew they had to find a solution that would integrate seamlessly with Azure. The clear winner was ClearDB, a member of the Microsoft Partner Network. ClearDB brings highly stable, zero-administration MySQL database services to Azure, helping organizations maximize revenue without maximizing their IT budgets. ClearDB is a highly available MySQL DBaaS that runs in multiple cloud computing and hybrid cloud/datacenter environments.
After shifting to ClearDB, the Office blog saw a performance boost of nearly 600 percent. “The site was so much more responsive,” said Brian Costea, a content publishing manager at Microsoft. “Now, we make sure all of our big Office announcements point back to the blog, because we’re confident it can handle the traffic.”
Technical support was a big plus as well. “The support we receive from ClearDB is amazing,” Costea said. “This dedicated solution isn’t just dedicated technology, but a dedicated team. The few times when I’ve had to open a support ticket, I got a call back within five minutes. Even if it’s not a ClearDB issue, they still do their best to fix it.”
