Industry News: August 24-28 – Trust in Microsoft Azure, Challenges in Modernizing Infrastructure and Amazon’s Renewable Energy Push
Every week we highlight cloud computing and technology news of interest. This week we’re covering trust in Microsoft Azure, why legacy technology may be holding back modernization efforts, why Amazon leads the way in serverless computing, Amazon’s plan for a new wind farm, and why passwords may be more vulnerable than ever before.
Let’s get started…
It’s no surprise that the pandemic has accelerated cloud migrations. A new survey from analyst firm CCS Insight found that the number of organizations with more than half of their IT workloads in the cloud is expected to double to 56% in the next year. So, who is trusted most when it comes to the public cloud? Survey says – Microsoft Azure. Read more in Cloud Tech here.
Is legacy technology holding back organizations attempting to modernize infrastructure? One recent study of tech leaders appears to paint that picture, with 35% of respondents citing aging networks as a challenge holding them back. Learn more about the push to modernize in Beta News here.
Earlier we mentioned trust among the public cloud, but when it comes to Kubernetes and serverless computing, one study found that Amazon Web Services (AWS) reigns supreme. Dive into what makes AWS a leader in this space in Virtualization & Cloud Review here.
Speaking of Amazon, the tech giant is putting an emphasis on its renewable energy capacity. AWS recently announced a wind farm project in Ireland to support its data centers there. Find out how much of an impact this could have on Amazon’s 100% renewable energy goal in Data Center Dynamics here.
New research indicates that while the mass migration to remote work led bad actors to attack virtual private networks and cloud services, credentials were already the best way for them to gain access to the cloud – dating back to last year. Why are passwords such a problem? Explore more of the report’s findings in Dark Reading here.
